I just discovered this tribe and thought I'd say hello. I grew up in Mt. Pleasant Mills (Snyder county) and went to Middleburg High School and Susquehanna University. After college, I managed to escape to Philly though the entirety of my family is still trapped in the murky confines of Snyder and Perry counties.
I recently wrote a book about my childhood in central PA called Tiny Cracker Zoo and set up my own website to share excerpts (www.christophermaster.com). I googled "Pennsyltucky" because I use it in my subtitle and was extremely amused to find that there's a whole tribe set up around the word, the region, the state of mind. I hope to make at least a few acquaintances on the board!
Take care,
Chris

Re: Pennsyltucky - born and (im)bred
Wed, June 14, 2006 - 4:34 PMI don't shower and I smell really bad. Ha Ha. No, actually, I used to show horses and this lady used to call me Smelly and in a hurry on my back number she wrote S. Melly instead of Melly S. and the name stuck with me as Smelly Melly now since I was 7 or 8 years old. I am a hippie, so it does fit at times : ) -

Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:08 PMHa! That's a great story and it's cool you embraced it.
With the last name "Master" I got called "Bates" all the time. Though embarrassing at the time, I've learned to laugh about it.

Thu, June 22, 2006 - 4:09 PMChris Bates, huh? That's bizarre. I grew up in Pennsyltucky with a Chris Bates right down the road from me. That was Amish country, though...not your area.
